Youth

“Let us put our minds together and see what life we can make for our children”

~ Chief Sitting Bull, Hunkpapa Lakota

As environmental leaders of today, it is our responsibility to pass down the knowledge and skills to the next generation of environmental leaders of tomorrow. Our youth programs support youth leadership to protect their lands and waters. Since 2009, CIER has provided environmental awareness and leadership training to over 1,400 children and youth through our youth environmental programs.

Success Story: Youth Water Leaders

'Our Water - Our Future' is a project in which Indigenous Youth in Canada became water leaders in their communities. Indigenous youth were fully funded to participate in four workshops around the country (Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, and Hudson Bay watersheds), where they learned from and were inspired by a variety of leaders from across Canada, relating to media, politics, advocacy, literary, scientific and other fields. Real solutions to water issues were developed by the youth participants and implemented in their communities with support from their respective communities and CIER. Learn more and see the digital stories youth created.

Project: Seventh Generation Waste Warriors

Two youth and two young adults from four communities across Manitoba were selected following an application process to participate in the Seventh Generation Waste Warriors Program. Participants from each community traveled with a chaperone to each of the communities, participating in three-to-five-day workshops. They learned about waste issues, diversion, and how to develop and implement their own community projects. Learn more about this project through the Seventh Generation Waste Warriors page
