Helping Prepare for Consultation

Picture

CIER developed and delivered a workshop on consultation for four Alberta First Nations, held in Calgary in 2013. The workshop was a forum for information-sharing, critical to increase First Nations’ knowledge of consultation and preparedness for constructive participation in the process. The workshop was based on CIER’s publication ‘Consulting with the Crown: A Guide for First Nations’ (2007). An overview of consultation and recent important legal cases regarding First Nations consultation were presented. CIER’s executive director and legal counsel provided mentorship, addressing specific questions on consultation, to assist First Nations currently going through the consultation process in how they can achieve cutting-edge consultation results.
