Advancing Indigenous Community-Based Climate Monitoring
CIER is currently working on an initiative to support advancing Indigenous Community-Based Climate Monitoring that focuses on three main themes: (1) Tools & Resources; (2) Data Management; and, (3) Training and Certification.
In November 2017, CIER held a National Indigenous Community-Based Climate Monitoring symposium, with the financial support of INAC’s Indigenous Community-Based Climate Monitoring Program. The symposium highlighted the need to support and strengthen Indigenous data management. This survey is intended to be the next step and contribute towards improving Indigenous data management. We appreciate your time and input.
About the Survey
The Indigenous Community-Based Climate Monitoring program is an INAC funding initiative to support First Nations, Métis Nations, and Inuit communities and organizations with collecting climate data. This survey is intended for Land Managers and Environmental Coordinators/Technicians.
The purpose of the survey is to:
• Better understand existing protocols and tools available to communities for managing data
• Gain insight into the challenges and limitations faced by communities; and
• Understand Indigenous communities’ data management requirements in order to support more effective climate data management and sharing
The information collected in this survey will be used to help identify tools and approaches for supporting Indigenous communities with collecting, accessing, manipulating, storing, and sharing their data. Additionally, we will develop a report and supporting materials outlining the survey findings, which will be shared with survey participants.
Deadline for survey responses is March 28, 2018.
Participants will be entered into a draw to win one of three $300 cash prizes to support community-based climate monitoring and data management!
